Pre season preparation for the lazy triathlete

There is one thing that every triathlete must do before the season. Prepare a good set of excuses to be pulled out at the right occasion to explain away a less that perfect performance on the day. The more preparation time put in now will pay dividends during the season.

There are 3 classes of excuse:
Pathetic:
These are just not worth considering by the serious lazy triathlete, leave them to the novices

"I had a bad day"
"My wife/husband wouldn't let me train"
"My winter training schedule was eaten by a dog"

Standard:
You've heard them time and time again, and they might just have the ring of truth. A good standby

"It's an old niggle that slows me down now and then"
"I've changed my nutrition regime"
"The course didn't suit me".

Gold Plated:
These are the best but involve a little more effort. The key is in the preparation.

A good example would be faking a cycling accident and hobbling around on crutches for a few weeks mentioning close shaves and broken heels. Do not fall into the trap of milking too much sympathy though. Now that your winter training has been completely disturbed it will reflect on the rest of your season.

Excuses such as

"If it wasn't for the accident that would have been ………." are now completely plausible.
