Lingfield Marathon

The Lingfield Marathon route goes past my front door. What other excuse do I need to enter? Well last year Loopy the Lurcher and ever faithful training partner was the first dog home so there was honour and pride at stake. Last year we did the 6 mile option, so just to make it a tad harder and to fit in with my marathon training schedule we entered the 10 mile.

It was a warm day so rashly I decided that running shorts were in order rather that my usual cycling style shorts. This was not a good decision. Ten miles in the warm in shorts I'd not worn for at least 6 months, shorts that where a damn sight shorter that the ones I usually wear. Let's talk about chaffing shall we? Though the course of the race the edges of the shorts took on the properties of a blunt saw and rasped against parts of my body that should not be rasped. It's very difficult to run whilst trying to stop the rubbing; I tried a variety of techniques from holding the edges away from the sensitive areas through to running like a saddle sore cowboy. None of them worked. In the end I gave up and worked on the principle that the sooner I could get to the end the sooner I could change into something more suitable and less painful.

Just the add insult to the now red raw injury Loopy was beaten by a dog in the 6 mile race. There is just no justice in this world!
